I just found this forum. Great to find other bike advocates in the Mankato area.
I used to commute to work in Mpls by bike. I wish it was as easy from Eagle Lake. Old hwy 14 and Madison Ave are a little too bike unfriendly.
I recently fixed up a couple of vintage Schwinns and leave them at my office in downtown Mankato. A couple of my coworkers use them as well- kind of communal office bikes.
What are the issues of other members? Access? Routes? Safety? We sure could use more downtown bike parking options? The Envision 2020 is helping raise awareness for pedestrians and bicyclists at the city planning level. I can't wait to see what will result...
Where do you meet? Is there going to be a "shop"?
Thanks for the forum.... Eric (katoscoot)

We meet on Thursday evenings and you are welcome to join. We are informal, and go through the bikes, strip down ones for parts, fix up good ones, sort, organize... that sort of thing.
Big thing for me is learing good repair techniques and working on bikes that I normally never would have access to. I'm learning a lot and having fun.
We have worked with St Peter and Mankato on bicycle saftey programs and will continue in 2007.
We donate or sell cheaply through the Salvation Army, and the internet. We sell some bikes to pay our rent and reimbursements.
To be honest, we are in flux, trying to figure out what directions we are going. We are close to getting a new building and maybe more tools. We are easy to find, you're welcome to come.
Plan on bringing some tools, if you have them. I am really a beginning "wrench", but am rapidly gaining my own set.
Beau and Ralph are a great resource for repair knowledge, it's lots of fun. If you join us, you'll find lots of Schwinn work, and other brands if you are interested.
Couple of main requirements, you need to participate in a bike safety program throughout the year, and volunteer by helping us fix and strip a couple a month, to help us meet expenses.
I'm hoping to get a small "Trail Tour" service for the community, hopefully raise a few dollars there, and I'd like some member fun rides and coffee meetings when it's cold (hopefully soon).
Please join us if you have the time, would like to meet you. ;D Thursday nights 5-8pm.
Turn at Minn-Star bank going towards the railroad, down that street towards the railroad turntable, a little farther and rebike is on the left. Building has name painted on front, we meet upstairs at the All American Towing Building. You can all me at home after 5pm at my house 934-5898.
Thanks again for checking in!
